There are over two million bulbs blooming in the Central Royal Parks. Each year the gardeners plant a further 60-70,000. Many are planted directly into the grass,to come up each year. However, several 52 thousand tulips are planted each year in the formal display beds outside Buckingham Palace, St. James’s Gardens and Kensington Gardens.

There are no formal beds in Green Park, which adjoins Buckingham Palace. It is said that Charles II's wife, Catherine of Braganza, had them removed as she caught her husband picking flowers there for another woman. However, the drifts of daffodils there are spectacular.

In late spring, the Isabella Plantation in the centre of Richmond Park is ablaze with azaleas.
